On Saturday, October 25th, Father John Behr will give a public lecture on his recently published book, In Accordance with the Scriptures (see for the blurb the publisher’s website). Much of his previous work comes together in this book.
From the Bible to Scripture
In this lecture, Fr John Behr will explore the implications of the different material forms in which we have the Scriptures, whether as lectionary or as the Bible. Rather than thinking in terms of the Bible, with its timeline proceeding from Old Testament to New, what happens when we think of the Scriptures (what we now usually call the Old Testament) unveiled in the light of Christ and his Passion? What shape does Christian theology then take? This lecture will challenge many of our contemporary presuppositions but open up a space in which the Scriptures can be read meaningfully in the present to encounter Christ.
