Staff

The staff of St Irenaeus consists at present of the following five academics:

The V. Revd. Dr. Andrew Louth, Honorary Fellow of VU’s Faculty of Theology, former Visiting Professor at VU and Professor Emeritus of Patristic and Byzantine Studies, Durham University (UK), Fellow of the British Academy;

The V. Revd. Dr. John McGuckin, Emeritus Professor at Columbia University;

The Revd. Dr. Michael Bakker, Rector of St Irenaeus, has completed his doctoral thesis Towards a Critical Edition of the Old Slavic New Testament at the Universiteit van Amsterdam and focuses his present research on mystagogy and anthropology in St. Maximos the Confessor;

The V. Revd. Dr. John Behr, the Metropolitan Kallistos (Ware) Chair of Orthodox Theology at VU and Regius Professor of Humanity, University of Aberdeen, who amongst others has published half a dozen books at Oxford University Press;

The Revd. Dr. Joan Lena, lecturer in Orthodox liturgical theology, who has completed his doctoral thesis in Byzantine Paleography on codices with homilies of Church Fathers and Orators, titled “The Panegyrikon Codex Type and its Liturgical Function. A New Catalogue Model”, and has worked for the last sixteen years as a Bible translator for the Interconfessional Bible Society of Albania.

The St Irenaeus Orthodox Theological Institute is the successor of ACOT (Amsterdam Centre for Orthodox Theology), providing educational programmes at an academic level and courses and lectures for those interested in Orthodoxy.
